Food, Restaurants and Breweries in Boulder

Boulder restaurant lists go stale fast, and most of the ones ranking today have not been touched in years. So the first thing we did for this page was not pick favorites, it was open every restaurant's own website and check the place still exists. One well-known name on our original list had closed entirely, and another turned out to have no location you can walk into. Both are explained below rather than quietly dropped.

What follows is short on purpose. You also will not find hours or prices here: those change constantly, and a wrong opening time sends you to a locked door. Addresses and booking platforms are stable, so that is what we publish.

Frasca Food and Wine at 1738 Pearl is the only MICHELIN-starred restaurant in Boulder, and in 2025 the James Beard Foundation named it Outstanding Restaurant, which is about as close as American dining gets to a national title. That came after Outstanding Service in 2019, Outstanding Wine Program in 2013, and four Outstanding Restaurant nominations in between. Boulder's two MICHELIN Bib Gourmands, the guide's good-value distinction, are Cozobi Fonda Fina and Basta. We have confirmed both on Michelin's own Boulder listing but have not yet verified either against its own website, so neither is in the table above. That check is on the list.

Two Boulder beer names show up on almost every guide still ranking today, and neither is a place you can go.

Sanitas Brewing closed. All locations shut in December 2025 after twelve years, and its own website now serves an error page. The space on Frontier Avenue has since become a new brewery from one of Sanitas's co-founders, which we will add here once we have verified it directly.

Boulder Beer Company is a brand, not a destination. Its own history page confirms the pub on Wilderness Place has closed and the beers are now brewed exclusively at Boulder Social on 38th Street. The history is genuinely worth knowing, though: two CU astrophysics professors founded it in 1979 as Colorado's first craft brewery, brewing in a converted goat shed on $592 of repurposed dairy equipment, when only 41 breweries were operating in the entire country. It was briefly Rockies Brewing Company, until the baseball team arrived and forced a rename in 1994.

One more worth flagging: Bootstrap Brewing turns up on Boulder lists constantly, and it is a fine brewery, but its own site says Longmont and it has no Boulder location.

At 13th Street and Canyon Boulevard, one block off Pearl and right beside the Dushanbe Teahouse. It has run since 1987. In 2026:

• Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 4 through November 21
• Wednesdays, 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., May 6 through October 7
• An artisan market is added the second Saturday of every month
• No pets. Service animals only

The recurring pattern, if you are reading this in a later year: Saturdays start the first Saturday in April and run through the last Saturday before Thanksgiving, and Wednesdays start the first Wednesday in May and run through the second Wednesday in October. Confirm at the market's own site.

The Pearl Street Mall is four car-free blocks, 11th Street to 15th Street. The city designated it the Downtown Boulder Mall on August 6, 1977, banning cars, and it is managed as a city park rather than as a street. It turns 50 in 2027, and the city has a maintenance and improvement project running through 2026 and 2027 ahead of that.

This matters for planning, because Pearl Street runs well past the pedestrian section in both directions. Several of the best-known restaurants with a Pearl Street address, Frasca at 1738 and River and Woods at 2328 among them, sit a walk or a short drive beyond the car-free blocks. Check the street number, not just the street name.
